This project explores Japan through abstract imagery with a focus on visual storytelling.
Japan is often promoted as a top destination through guidebooks and tourism, however none of these methods target young creatives directly. For my Capstone project, I wanted to promote Japan to this younger and more curious audience as I feel that this group has the most potential to enjoy Japan on a creative level.
During my investigation I studied Japanese Contemporary Art, Japanese Graphic Design, Japanese Design Trends, Japanese society and my own personal experiences from my trip earlier this year.
Primary and secondary research methodologies were used as well as a reflective process and imagery collection. To create the pages and spreads within my book, I used mainly imagery and colour to convey the ideas and emotions behind my work to my reader and structured it in a way that had a storyline and journey.
The final outcome comes in the form of a zine booklet, allowing my audience to interpret the visual information in their own personal way.
